Stavros

0477 introduces work from the last two years of Stavros’ practice. A 20-minute video follows a feed as it scrolls—letting whatever appears over twenty minutes become the raw material for the work, which is then re-edited—and features an original soundtrack he composed using samples from other doomscrolling sessions. The video is framed by a series of paintings in which he combines found and interfered-with imagery, which he then silkscreen prints onto cured and vandalised surfaces. These recall urban walls marked by expired advertisements and signage, decayed spray paint, poster paper, and buffing, while the imagery is sourced from social media platforms, online magazines, surveillance footage, search engines, and other accessible media.

Stavros is an artist based in Athens. His practice began with early engagements in graffiti, skateboarding, and graphics. Drawn to print and typography from a young age, he went on to study Graphic Design at the University of the Arts London, spending two years at the London College of Communication before leaving to work in fashion. In 2020, he returned to Athens, where he began working with painting and silkscreen printing, attending workshops at Tind Silkscreen Atelier under Manolis Angelakis. Parallel to this, he makes music based on sampling, extending the appropriative logic of his use of found material from images into sound.

The exhibition was made possible through the generous support of the Carved to Flow Foundation.
